MR. N. RAMACHANDRAN

Biography

A businessman, philanthropist, sports enthusiast, an able administrator and a fighter for the cause of persons with Down syndrome, Mr Ramachandran dons many hats with equal aplomb.  Having been the Executive Director of one of the largest companies in South India, he has been instrumental in expanding the company’s business. He was also the former President of the World Squash Federation, the only Indian to head an International Sporting Federation recognized by the International Olympics Committee.

His involvement with Down syndrome stems from his determination to create an inclusive world for his daughter Babli. As a member of the Down syndrome Federation of India, he was involved in the creation of the Asia Pacific Down Syndrome Federation (APDSF) in 1996, which is a regional level body. Initially, a loosely formed body of organizations from the Asia Pacific region, it became an Independent registered body in 2017. In its annual meeting held at Singapore in 2016, Mr. Ramachandran was unanimously elected President of APDSF.

APDSF has grown from a 5 country body to over 20 countries today. He has been able to obtain a special consultative status for APDSF in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the UN.  Mr. Ramachandran is always willing to support other countries and is open to new ideas. His main goal as President of APDSF is to ensure that persons with Down syndrome are integrated into society and treated on par with everyone else globally.
